Trade Alert: Sens trade away one of the players from leaked Uber video

The Ottawa Senators have traded defenseman Chris Wideman to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for a 6th round pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.

The 28 year old Wideman was one of the player identified in the leaked Uber video from earlier this month in which several Sens players including star forward Matt Duchene and star rookie Thomas Chabot were seen ripping the team's special teams coach Marty Raymond.

In 19 games with the Sens this season, Wideman has two goals and five points, along with a -9 plus/minus.

As for the Oilers, Wideman provides the team with some much needed blue line depth. After the team's top pairing of Adam Larsson and Oscar Klefbom and second pairing Dman Darnell Nurse, the Oilers have had little consistency on the back end. It's likely that Wideman will slot in alongside Matt Benning on the team's third defense pairing, but then again... who knows what new head coach Ken Hitchcock has in store for his defence.

Regardless, despite being a relatively minor transaction, this move has to send shockwaves through both team's locker rooms. In the span of just 48 hours the Oilers players have been witness to GM Peter Chiarelli first firing their head coach and then making a trade for a veteran defenceman capable of displacing other players. As for the Sens... well nothing should shock their players at this point, but the departure of Wideman in wake of "Uber-Gate" from earlier this month HAS to have gotten the players' attention.
