Trade Alert: Wild trade veteran Eric Staal
Zuma Press

This just in, according to a report from TSN hockey insider Darren Dreger, the Buffalo Sabres have traded veteran forward Marcus Johansson to the Minnesota Wild, reportedly for Eric Staal.

Check it out:

According to Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman, the trade is a one for one, Staal for Johansson.

Check it out:

I have to say... on the surface this is NOT a good trade for Wild general manager Bill Guerin. Staal might be 35 years old, but he has turned back the clock past four years with the Wild and put up 19 goals and 47 points this past season. The 29 year old Johansson put up just nine goals and 30 points with the Sabres this past season. And if you're wondering whether or not this is a cost saving measure by Guerin... it isn't. Staal has just one year left on a deal that pays him $3.25 million annually, while Johansson has one year left at $4.5 million.

I gotta say... I'm scratching my head a bit at some of Guerin's moves lately. Between this and the $42 million deal he handed out to Jonas Brodin, it hasn't been the best week for Bill Guerin.

Me too, Eric. Me too.
