The Vegas Golden Knights are not only rewriting history with their perfect 3-0 start to the 2017-18 season, but they may also have a potential trade in mind that could make history itself.

NHL insider Darren Dreger believes star forward James Neal could and should be traded by the Knights before the trade deadline, as he explained during a segment on Vancouver's TSN 1040 on Thursday.

Neal can become an unrestricted free agent in the summer, and if he continues to play as he does, recording five goals in three contests, the star forward could land a massive contract. But what if the Knights placed him at the center of a bidding war?

Dreger believes Neal could bring a huge return on the market and suggests that the Montreal Canadiens could be the best fit not only in their top-6 but to fit his 6 million salary.

“Or we talked about the Vegas Golden Knights – what about James Neal? He’s going to be a pending unrestricted free agent. His name, to some degree, is out there. Not that they’re shopping him, but why wouldn’t you want to trade James Neal to try and get something sweet back before the February 26 trade deadline. If he’s a roaring success in Vegas, then sign him back as an unrestricted free agent. So maybe that’s another name Montreal checks out.”

Neal would provide much needed offense the Habs are looking for at the moment. But with such a trade in the books, the Knights would definitely be rememered for more than just their excellent start to the season.
