Trade Rumor: Martin Hanzal’s price is off the bound.
Keystone Press

Since the past few days, many insiders drained all the attention toward the value of the highly rumored players. The market value for rental players is pretty high, so can you imagine the price of a top center like Matt Duchene? This is why, and it’s been stated many times before, contending teams might be tempted to change their choice for Martin Hanzal.

But let’s be honest, Hanzal is not Matt Duchene. He certainly can bring a physical presence down the center line while bringing a decent offensive production. Is he worth a first round pick though?

Hanzal had a monster game that night, scoring two goals and helping shut down Sidney Crosby in a 4-3 overtime victory. He’ll have to keep playing well this month, otherwise the rumored asking price of nothing less than a first-round pick might be too high for most teams expressing interest.

John Chayka will certainly need to lower his expectations regarding the return for Hanzal. With Brian Boyle also being on the market, it will certainly have a negative impact on Hanzal’s value as another big sized center could be available.

Coyotes GM John Chayka was recently seen scouting the Western Conference-leading Minnesota Wild. Former NHL player, agent and GM Brian Lawton suggested Monday morning on Sportsnet 590 the Fan that Hanzal could be the type of piece that would put the Washington Capitals the class of the Eastern Conference, over the top heading into the post-season.”
