The Colorado Avalanche have a problem on their hands with an RFA in Tyson Barrie that they don't appear ready to re-sign for big money, and it appears they may believe the answer to their problems is Winnipeg Jets defenseman Jacob Trouba.

According to a report from Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, while the Avalanche may be targeting Trouba, there's no guarantee Winnipeg is willing to part with him.

“Tyson Barrie‘s future there is not that certain but I don’t think [the Avalanche] want to trade him until they can add some help,” said Friedman. “I believe one of the targets is Winnipeg’s Jacob Trouba. I’m not saying Winnipeg’s going to do it, but I think that’s a player Colorado would like to get its hands on.”

While Winnipeg may be hesitant to trade Trouba, he is also headed for a major payday, and they may view Barrie as a viable, and potentially cheaper option especially with Dustin Byfuglien's new deal about to kick in.
