They say that persistence always pays off and in the case of two long time veterans of the National Hockey League it appears that this may in fact be the case this time around.

According to an official announcement from the St. Louis Blues organization, the team has just signed both NHL veterans Troy Brouwer and Jamie McGinn to professional tryout offers effective immediately. It's a new opportunity for both men after they failed to secure an NHL contract during the offseason, although it seems highly unlikely that they will both be signed to NHL deals by the Blues during the course of the 2019 - 2020 NHL regular season. It seems far more likely that the two men will likely be competing for a single spot on the Blues roster, although that is only speculation on my part at this time.

McGinn, a 31 year old forward that was drafted in the second round (36th overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft by the San Jose Sharks has played this season although that was just 2 games as a member of the American Hockey LEague's Charlotte Checkers. His most recent NHL experience comes off a 19 game stint with the Florida Panthers during the 2018 - 2019 NHL regular season in which he recorded 4 goals and 3 assists for a total of 7 points. Over his career McGinn has appeared in an impressive 617 career games, recording 117 goals and 103 assists for a total of 220 career points.

Brouwer, also a forward, on the other hand is a little older at 34 years of age and is a former seventh round draft pick (214th overall) of the Chicago Blackhawks at the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. In spite of being drafted so late in the draft Brouwer has gone on to have an impressive NHL career that has spanned 838 games in which he has accumulated 181 goals and 181 assists for a total of 362 career points in the NHL. Brouwer's most recent NHL experience was this past season as a member of the Florida Panthers in which he appeared in 75 games picking up 12 goals and 9 assists for a total of 21 points.
