TSN analyst Ray Ferraro rips Toronto radio for embarrassing Nylander hot takes

Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander ended a five month standoff with his team earlier this month by signing a massive seven year contract worth $6.9 million.

In his first two games with the team this season, Nylander has gone pointless, which in any normal hockey market wouldn’t be a big deal… but this is Toronto so of course it’s a HUGE problem.

On yesterday’s TSN 1050 Overdrive radio broadcast, host Bryan Hayes says that Nylander’s “grace period” is now over after playing just two games.

Check out this ridiculous hot take from Hayes:

“It’s over now… I’m NOW. I’m not saying you gotta score a hat trick tomorrow night, but you negotiated… you’re a pro and you’re getting paid. Last week you did your practices and you got your games in…”

Hayes was then interrupted by guest Ray Ferraro who ripped into Hayes. To be honest, it was a thing of beauty, check out these quotes:

“No, no, no, no.  He didn’t practice… “

Hayes then asked, “Okay, when does he get treated like every other athlete?”

Ferraro again:

“Over two weeks. He’s gotta practice, he’s practiced like what twice? Let’s say a guy plays four exhibition games… in the meantime he practices 10-15 times around training camp and then the season starts. Nylander’s practiced twice now and played two games. So to have two different sets of standards is really silly to me and Bryan you really sounded like a fan boy there…”
“This is not like hosting a radio show. It’s much more difficult to play a professional sport. We can put a guy in your chair and they’ll get through, they might mess up the breaks but they’ll get through.”

“Same with you between the benches. Same thing,” Hayes fired back.

“Correct, but you see there’s the difference, Bryan. I don’t have an inflated sense of self. I played and I understand a little bit more maybe than other people. I understand that if I took eight months off and I went to play it would be more than two practices and two games before I’m anywhere near ready.”

Well said, Mr. Ferraro. Well said. There’s nothing more I love than seeing smug guys like Hayes put in their spot.
