We all know how much of a surprise it was when Boston Bruins star goalie Tuukka Rask quit on his club, leaving the Toronto bubble and opted out of the postseason to return home.

Ever since, fans and pundits have been trying to come up with an explanation to why Rask just up and left and why there are now talks that the netminder would be leaning towards not returning at all to the National Hockey League.

However on Wednesday morning, it is Greg Hill of WEEI Sports Radio that reports, per the Complete Hockey News, that Rask got a disturbing phone call from his wife just moments before he left the Bruins and headed out of the bubble in Toronto.

And we can understand why:

“I can tell you that he got a phone call in the bubble from his wife, because there was a medical emergency with their daughter. Basically the kind of situation where I believe Tuukka Rask did what every parent would do and was obviously very concerned. It was suggested they seek medical help. Without revealing what that was, because I think I probably should leave that to him — he did tell me — as a father of two kids, I would be panicked and alarmed upon hearing that about a young kid.”

There might have been talks that everything was fine with his family and that Rask just missed them and wanted to be home, but on top of that, when you think of an urgent situation like this one, you can understand why anyone would go out and be present with their family.

In his statement once he left the team, Rask had explained his reasons, but with this latest information, it makes even more sense.

“I want to be with my team competing, but at this moment there are things more important than hockey in my life, and that is being with my family,” Rask said. “I want to thank the Bruins and my teammates for their support and wish them the best.”

It is our turn to wish Rask and his family the best at this time.
