The Boston Bruins are still reeling from their deep run into the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs. By that I don't mean that the Bruins players are still emotionally impacted by a tough loss in the Stanley Cup Final but rather that the Bruins are currently dealing with a large number of injuries on their roster, even this late into the summer.

Missing from the opening day of training camp for the Boston Bruins were Joakim Nordstrom, Trent Frederic, Kevan Miller, John Moore, Cameron Hughes and Patrice Bergeron, although Bergeron did skate on his own, just to give you some indication of just how ravaged by injury the Bruins have been. Thankfully for the organization they got some good news on Saturday with what appears to be positive updates on three of the aforementioned players who were absent on Day 1.

Both Joakim Nordstrom and Trent Frederic made their training camp debuts on Saturday after having missed the first day, a great sign for the Bruins who could certainly use some more good news on the injury front right now. Nordstrom of course had been sidelined for much of the summer with a fractured foot he suffered in the Stanley Cup Final, an injury he admitted limited him during his preparations for the upcoming regular season.

“I felt good. It was fun to be back out there,” said Nordstrom as per Bruins insider Joe Haggerty. “It was step one for me today being back with the group. Hopefully I wake up tomorrow and I’m still feeling good. It was difficult not being able to work out and prepare as you want, but it is what it is. I came back [to Boston] fairly early to do whatever I needed to do to be ready."

Nordstrom also indicated that he felt his confidence grow as the season wore on, stating that he felt more and more comfortable as his role on the team became a more consistent one, with more consistent partners on the ice.

“I felt pretty good throughout the season. Toward the end I had better production than earlier on, I played with the same players for a time there and I think confidence plays a role.”

For those hoping for an update on star forward Patrice Bergeron, it was more of the same from the Bruins veteran on Saturday. Although he did not participate with his teammates in training camp, Bergeron once again skated on his own for the second straight time. The mere fact that he appears to be out there and skating consistently has to bode well for his health, and by extension for the Boston Bruins.
