Two GMs meet face to face to discuss trade of two former first-rounders.

There is a monster trade rumor floating around the National Hockey League.

We have a report this morning from Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe that confirms that both Boston Bruins general manager Don Sweeny and Colorado Avalanche general manager Joe Sakic met face to face last night for several minutes.

From Shinzawa:

For most of Sunday’s 18-minute second intermission, the Bruins general manager spoke to Colorado counterpart Joe Sakic in Section N24 of TD Garden’s press box. It’s unlikely they were comparing powder conditions between Boston and Denver.

According to Shinzawa the two men were discussing the possibility of a trade that would send defenseman Brandon Carlo to the Avalanche in exchange for the Av's captain, Gabriel Landeskog.

It would be nothing short of a blockbuster trade especially given that Carlo was described as an untouchable player when mentioned in trade rumors early this season, something that may give fans in Boston pause. With the Bruins having fired their head coach the pressure is all on the shoulders of general manager Don Sweeney and President Cam Neely, and no one would be surprised to see a desperation trade coming from that organization.

Kevin Paul Dupont of the Boston Globe believes that the Bruins would have to shed some salary to make this deal work and suggested that forward Jimmy Hayes could be the piece that remedies that problem in this deal.

Stay tuned.
