Some good news and some bad news.

The Ottawa Senators were largely expected to have a catastrophic season during the 2018 - 2019 campaign but so far things haven't been too bad for the Senators and for their fan base.

The Senators have come out of the gate with a strong start in the preseason and they continued that strong start into the 2018 - 2019 National Hockey League regular season. The Senators played a very close game against the Chicago Blackhawks in the season opener and then they made their fans proud by picking up the first victory in the Battle of Ontario when they defeated the hated Toronto Maple Leafs by a score of 5 to 3. The Senators likely weren't expecting this many positives so early on but the good news, at least in part, continued on Sunday.

According to a report from TSN 1200 radio in Ottawa, Senators head coach Guy Boucher has informed them that Brady Tkachuk, Senators first round pick in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, looks good to go for Ottawa's Monday afternoon game against the Boston Bruins. This would mark Tkachuk's NHL debut and when you consider how much hype is behind the young man in Ottawa it's arguably the most anticipated moment of the seasons for the Senators fan base. Tkachuk has already demonstrated that he has the size, the skill and the attitude to match up with the grown men that he will be facing off against at the National Hockey League level and now the only thing that remains to be seen is if he can perform consistently under the bright lights of the NHL.

Unfortunately the news from Guy Boucher was not all positive as there were some concerns stemming from Senators practice on Sunday morning. Reports out of practice indicated that veteran senators winger Ryan Dzingel was forced to leave practice early, although the reason for his departure was not disclosed. Concerns around that report were quickly dispelled when Dzingel returned to the ice several minutes later but he did not stay out on the ice for very long and was forced to leave practice early for a second time. Boucher indicated that Dzingel's status for Monday's game was up in the air as a result but that is not particularly surprising given the news from this morning.

Additionally Boucher indicated that veteran back up goaltender Mike Condon would be getting the start between the pipes on Monday.
