Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas confirmed earlier today that prospects Timothy Liljegren and Rasmus Sandin have both been loaned to Team Sweden for the upcoming 2019 World Junior Championships.

The two Swedish defensemen are the team’s last two first round picks with Liljegren going 17th overall in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft and Sandin going 29th overall in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.

The 19 year old Liljegren has two goals and eight points in 19 games with the AHL’s Toronto Marlies this season and is on pace to shatter his rookie totals of 17 points with the Marlies last season.

As for Sandin, the 18 year old has four goals and seven points in just 12 games with the Marlies. Technically he’s still eligible to play junior hockey with the OHL’s Soo Greyhounds, but he has looked very, very solid at the pro level.

Both players are expected to be slam dunk locks to make this year’s team on a strong Swedish squad.
