The National Hockey League seems to be dealing with an outbreak of injuries to goaltenders, and it's having a serious impact on playoff contenders.

With big injuries to goalies like Chicago Blackhawks netminder Corey Crawford, and Pittsburgh Penguin Marc-Andre Fleury already likely to have a big impact on the post season, two more big injuries that occurred over the week-end could also now impact the playoffs.

First St. Louis Blues goaltender Jake Allen was injured, again, although the details of his injury are still unclear at this time. Allen left Sunday's game against the Colorado Avalanche, and now reports suggest he will be evaluated today. It's not certain how bad the injury is, but the extra day before updating his status does raise some concerns, especially when you consider he missed nearly 20 games earlier in the season.

The second injury is to a less well known goaltender, but could have an even more drastic impact on his teams playoff hopes. Jean-Francois Berube was injured in Saturday's loss to the Penguins, and as a result the New York Islanders have been forced to call up their 4th string goaltender Christopher Gibson, who has a mediocre .909 save percentage in the AHL this season.

Berube is listed as day to day right now, but his absence with a major injury already impacting Islanders starter Jaroslav Halak his loss puts a lot of additional pressure on the Islanders.
