Neurosurgeon makes scary statements regarding Sidney Crosby Health condition

Jamie Strashin from CBC Sports asked Dr. Neilank Jha and Dr. Charles Tator (project director of the Canadian Sports Concussion Project for the Krembil Neuroscience Center at Toronto Western Hospital) what could be the consequences of a fifth concussion for the National Hockey League superstar Sidney Crosby.

Potential consequences are devastating and both neurosurgeons are categorical: “Crosby risks long-term damage if not fully recovered from concussion.

Crucial games are ahead of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Crosby might be tempted to play even if he is symptomatic.

Would it be a good idea for him to return if he still has symptoms? I don’t think so, because he would be putting himself at a high level of risk,” Jha says. “But if he does resolve the symptoms that are currently going on and it’s his desire to win another Stanley Cup again, then that decision is left up to him and his medical staff.

Concussion history is important,” Tator says. “You are more likely to recover after one concussion than after 10 concussions.”
