Two new trade options for help down the middle in Boston!

All eyes were on the Boston Bruins last night to see what they might do to improve down the middle. The Bruins are dealing with a hole on their third line and it looks like general manager Don Sweeney has waited long enough to make a move.

On Tuesday, Wild insider Michael Russo of The Athletic reported forward Charlie Coyle is being 'dangled' in the trade market by Minnesota and NHL insider Pierre LeBrun stated that the Bruins might be on the verge of getting a deal done.

"I believe the Boston Bruins have kicked the tires on Charlie Coyle. Not really surprised given that the Bruins, with all those injuries that they are dealing with. I don't know that this is something that's imminent; but in terms of the Wild, I think Paul Fenton may be finally starting - ready to act."

However, Coyle, who has tallied five goals and 14 points in 30 games this season with a plus-6 rating, is also getting the attention of the Ottawa Senators, and for some time, the Montreal Canadiens. To be sure the Bruins aren't left with no other options whatsoever, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman wonders if Boston isn't targeting any other centre in his latest 31 Thoughts column on Sportsnet.

"Boston’s been linked to Coyle. If he’s not the guy, wonder if someone like Jeff Carter would fit the Bruins. They’ve also been linked to Kevin Hayes , but will have competition. Another possibility for the Ranger centre? Colorado. He’s exactly what they need."

Carter and Hayes hence become two new trade options for the Bruins, despite the fact that the Avalanche might look to compete with them on the market.

Coyle remains an enticing option for a few clubs, and definitely the Bruins, as he is a first-round draft pick of the San Jose Sharks in 2010. The 26-year-old carries a $3.2 million cap hit through next season. A 21-goal scorer back in the 2016-17 campaign, Coyle posted 11 goals and 37 points in 66 games last season.

When asked about the trade rumors linking him to Montreal, Coyle had the perfect reply after beating the Habs by the final score of 7-1.

“I’ve been [getting traded] to Montreal since five years ago. So it really means nothing.”
