It appears that the writing is now all but officially on the wall.

One of the most interesting sagas leading up to the trade deadline for the 2018 - 2019 National Hockey League regular season has been the one surrounding the Ottawa Senators. In spite of being arguably the worst team in the entire league this season the Senators have two of the hottest potential trade targets on their roster ahead of the deadline, and there remains a very realistic expectation that the notoriously cheap Senators could very well end up trading both of them.

Well on Sunday morning two of the National Hockey League's top insiders shared the latest on the situation in Ottawa and it does now indeed sound like there is a massive trade about to come down. First it was TSN insider Darren Dreger who chimed in with his report on the situation and according to Dreger it sounds like the Senators now have their sights set on trading star center Matt Duchene before the end of the month. The situation for Mark Stone is not as clear however as there have been reports that the Senators are still trying to get a deal done on time before the deadline.

"Unless there’s last minute change, the Ottawa Senators plan on trading Matt Duchene," said Dreger on Sunday. "Mark Stone’s future in Ottawa should also be determined early this week, well in advance of the trade deadline."

Up next it was TSN NHL insider Pierre LeBrun who shared some additional details regarding the potential trade involving Duchene, indicating that there has been tremendous interest across the National Hockey League in acquiring the very skilled center. LeBrun said teams in both conferences have expressed a desire to acquire the Senators center, but additionally he went out of his way to cite two teams specifically that he feels could make a big move at the deadline to get Duchene.

"Not surpringsly, word is that several teams from both conferences have shown interest with Ottawa on Duchene," said LeBrun on Sunday morning. "Believe that Columbus and Nashville are among the many teams which have checked in with the Senators on him."

Unless Stone himself is traded a deal involving Duchene is likely going to be the biggest move we see ahead of the deadline, and it sounds like we are indeed going to see it.
