Ottawa Senators forward Mark Stone might have stepped in front in the camera to deny the rumour: on Wednesday TVA Sports’ Louis Jean reported that forward Mark Stone doesn’t want to play in Ottawa anymore because he isn’t happy with the direction of the team.

“That’s it, Mark Stone does not want to be in Ottawa anymore. He does not want to play in Ottawa anymore. He’s frustrated because he sees where the club is going. The team is unable to retain its good players,” explained Jean, as translated from French.

While Stone came out to say he never implied he wanted to Ottawa, it seems that rival teams might been back to kicking tires around the Sens top forward to see if they could pry him out of Ottawa this season.

According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, two teams have shown interest in Stone, and could attempt a move once again following this trade rumour controversy.  He explained this during the 31 Thoughts: The Podcast, as recounted by Chris Nichols of Nichols on Hockey.

“I heard the Avalanche were kind of kicking around Mark Stone a little bit, them and Vegas. And I don’t know if that’s true, but the one thing I did hear was they really look at it like, ‘We have to find out, in addition to Nathan MacKinnon and the guys we’ve got - we know we’ve got MacKinnon. We know we’ve got Rantanen. We know we’ve got a bunch of guys here. We’ve got to find out what we’ve got in these two guys.’ And I think that’s what they’re going to do.
“The other thing too is they could have a top player drop onto their lap next year from the Ottawa Senators."

Stone signed a one-year, $7.35 million contract with the Senators, which avoided an arbitration hearing, however, he will not be eligible to sign a contract extension with the Senators until January.

It would be a huge blow for the Senators to lose Stone, especially if they have planned the rebuilding process around him. However, we clearly saw that GM Pierre Dorion isn’t afraid of making moves that shock the fan base, and gets excited just by the fact that they’re a team…

So, can you really rule this out?
