Two time Cup Champion says there is a “pretty good chance” this is his final season.

This appears to be the end.

It sounds like a long time veteran of the National Hockey League is preparing to put a bow on his illustrious hockey career.

NHL reporter Chris Kuc of The Atheltic recently had the chance to catch up with Washington Capitals defenseman Brooks Orpik to discuss his future in the game of hockey, and surprisingly Orpik admitted openly that there "it’s a pretty good chance" that this will be his final year as a player in the NHL. Now Orpik would not officially confirm or deny that this would in fact be his final season but some of the things he said when speaking to Kuc certainly come off like comments from a guy who knows he has reached the end of the line. Orpik even admitted that he has already put some serious thought into life after hockey.

"I think it’s irresponsible if you don’t, to be honest with you," Orpik said as per The Athletic. "You hear a lot of stories where guys aren’t prepared for it and it leads to some not-so-great situations for guys. But in terms of exactly what I’ll do, I don’t know. I’ve had a lot of other people tell me what I should do and maybe they’re right, I don’t know. It’s funny, even my dad is saying, ‘you’ll do something with hockey right? Hockey has given you so much so you have to give it back.’ So there’s that side of it, but then there’s the other side of it where I don’t think people realize how much time that you’ve given to hockey and you’ve missed out on a lot of stuff that you weren’t able to do. There’s kind of a fine line, but exactly what, no, I haven’t really nailed that down."

If this is indeed the end of Orpik's career he will leave behind a big mark on the sport of hockey, and will walk away from the sport with his head held high as a champion. Barring an absolute catastrophe Orpik will play in his 1000th regular season game this season, 100 games which include 19 career goals, and 171 career assists for 188 career points, and has two Stanley Cup rings to his name, assuming the Capitals don't repeat this season.

We wish him all the best moving forward.
