Update on Bruins captain Zdeno Chara from Sunday's practice.

More concern for the Bruins captain.

We do not even know who the Boston Bruins will be facing in the Stanley Cup Final just yet, but one of the biggest story lines heading into that final will undoubtedly be the health of Bruins captain Zdeno Chara.

Chara is of course getting up there in terms of age for a hockey player at the National Hockey League level. That in and of its own would not be a concerned given the fact that Chara continues to demonstrate that he can play, and play well, at the NHL level however that is not the only concern. Chara was of course forced to sit out the final game of the Eastern Conference Final due to the fact that he suffered an injury and when it comes to recovering from injury, the older you get the more difficult the road back becomes.

That being said the Bruins have expressed confidence that Chara will be ready to go in the Stanley Cup Final, and no doubt the 11 days between games that the Bruins will have as a result of their sweep of the Hurricanes will help tremendously in that regard. Sunday however only brought my cause for concern as far as Chara's health goes, with the Bruins big man once again opting not to participate in the team's Sunday morning practice. Of course there is still plenty of time between now and Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final, but the fact that Chara remains injured is obviously not good for the Bruins.

There were some positive takeaways from Sunday morning however, although they are admittedly minor ones. The main point of good news from today's practice was the fact that Chara did take to the ice today, albeit in limited fashion. According to a report from Bruins reporter Joe McDonald Chara was out on the ice for 30 minutes before the actual practice today and was skating with defenseman Steven Kampfer before the rest of the team hit the ice. Neither Chara nor veteran forward David Krejci would participate in the actual practice itself however and I do not expect we will be getting detailed updates on either man from the Bruins at this time.
