It was overall more bad news for Bruins captain Zdeno Chara on Thursday but there were at least some positive takeaways from practice.

The Bruins revealed that Chara would once again be sidelined due to his nagging lower-body injury extending his absence from the line up to five consecutive games, but the aging Bruins captain did return to the ice with his teammates for practice as well, skating for the first time since the injury.

“He’s out there skating, but he won’t be playing tonight,” said Claude Julien as per Bruins insider Joe Haggerty.

The Bruins have gone 1-2-1 since Chara has been out, and they lost another defenseman in John-Michael Liles to a concussion earlier this week making the potential return of Chara even more urgent.

The Bruins did not comment on how soon they expect Chara to need before he returns to the line up.
