The Pittsburgh Penguins have more news on Carl Hagelin.

Penguins' head coach Mike Sullivan announced Monday that the forward has been diagnosed with a concussion and is working through the league's mandated protocol.

Hagelin was injured in Saturday's 4-1 win over the St. Louis Blues, but was able to skate on his own prior to Monday's practice.

The speedy forward has played sporadically this season contributing six goals and 19 points for the Pens.

The Penguins sport the NHL's top offensive unit, but have suffered key injuries recently. Top-six forwards Evgeni Malkin and Conor Sheary are also out with injuries, and while Malkin is making progress, he will not be available for Tuesday's matchup against the Calgary Flames.

The team can ill afford more injuries to their forwards.
