The Boston Bruins did not get the result they were looking for in Game 1 of their first round series in the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Toronto Maple Leafs and you just knew that following that game that some changes would be made. We may not know what those changes will be exactly until just moments before the puck actually drops in Game 2, but we already have something of a preview of what they might be.

First and foremost according to a report from Boston Bruins insider Joe Haggerty, Bruins forward Jake DeBrusk has resumed skating this morning after sitting out the last Bruins practice with an injury. The fact that the morning skate this morning was an optional one is a very promising sign for the Bruins indeed as far as DeBrusk's recovery is concerned, and in fact Haggerty is reporting that it "bodes well for his availability tonight," in Game 2 against the Maple Leafs. Haggerty has his pulse on the finger on the Boston Bruins so if believes that DeBrusk will play tonight you have to expect that he will indeed be in the line up for the Bruins this evening.

What makes this bit of news particularly interesting is a report from Boston Bruins reporter Jimmy Murphy regarding the status of veteran forward David Backes. Backes of course made headlines in Game 1 due to the fact that he was placed on the sidelines by Boston Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy, but that will not be the case for Game 2 it seems. According to Murphy his sources have informed him that David Backes will be in for Game 2 of the series regardless of whether or not DeBrusk is ready to go tonight. This means that if DeBrusk is in fact healthy that there will be another member of the Bruins who will be sidelined to make room for Backes in the line up.

Although Murphy has not been able to pin down which player may sit tonight he did offer up two guesses that should only be taken as speculation at this point. Murphy specifically named forward Marcus Johansson and forward Chris Wagner as the two most likely candidates to sit out tonight.

Update: Cassidy all but confirms Backes and DeBrusk are in, but would not confirm who is coming out.
