After bowing out of the World Cup of Hockey finals against Team Canada, Team Europe’s NHL players are heading back to their respective cities to undergo their medical exams and potentially take part in preseason games.

In the case of the Detroit Red Wings, three players had the privilege of representing their (continent?) in Toronto: Tomas Tatar, Thomas Vanek and Frans Nielsen.

All three are expected to join the Red Wings sometime early next week, and head coach Jeff Blashill told MLive.com:

“I'd love to get them in two (preseason games), but I don't think it's going to be feasible, even if they came back on Tuesday. After a few days off to throw them in a game doesn't make tons of sense. So I think we'll look at next Saturday (vs. Toronto at home) as the game they'll play.”

Meanwhile, Alexey Marchenko of Team Russia is expected to practice tomorrow with the team and play in a few games next week.
