With the Leafs' season sadly over, the boys now have the choice to join the World Championship roster for their country. Many decided to go, but some thought it would be smarter to skip it and prepare properly for next season. One important piece of the Leafs decided to do just that.

James Van Riemsdyk could have joined the U.S. national team easily, but he considers it too high of a risk for his career.

This is totally understandable. The hockey players of the past took the whole summer off and got themselves back in shape during the Fall camps. However, the pros nowadays workout 12 months a year and they need the rest the off season procure them. Little injuries can be in the way for a long time if you don't have the discipline to heal them properly.
