At the trade deadline on Monday, the Vegas Golden Knights acquired forward Mark Stone from the Ottawa Senators in a deal for defensive prospect Erik Brannstrom, forward Oscar Lindberg and Dallas’ second-rounder in 2020.

On top of that, Stone revealed that he and the Golden Knights had agreed to an eight-year extension. TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie reported that the deal is for $9.5 million per season, but the deal cannot be completed until Friday.

Two tough blows of the Senators fanbase.

And Golden Knights general manager George McPhee had no mercy and went in with the third blow after the deal was completed when he commented on his new acquisition, that will surely help Vegas in a long playoff run.

"Players this good aren't available through trade very often. Usually you draft a player like this, and you hold onto him and he plays his whole career with you."

Ouch.

Stone, who was drafted by the Senators in the sixth round (178th overall) of 2010 NHL Draft, has 123 goals and 311 points over the his seven-year career. Fans expected him to become the franchise's new captain, to possibly lead them to a Stanley Cup, to be a Senator for life...

It did not happen and McPhee had to rub it in...

All that the Senators and their GM Pierre Dorion can do now is preach patience and trust...

“We’ve never had this number of picks. We’ve had this number of prospects. We’re early on in the rebuild,” explained Dorion on Ottawa's TSN 1200. “We’re asking our fans to be patient. We’re asking our fans to trust us.”

Stone, Matt Duchene, Ryan Dzingel, Erik Karlsson, Kyle Turris, Derick Brassard, Mike Hoffman and Marc Methot have all departed since Ottawa was competing in a Game 7 overtime against the Pittsburgh Penguins back in 2017.

Now, the Senators need to rebuild, all over.

So please, McPhee, do not rub it in...
