Vegas opens negotiation with Oilers' veteran.

The expansion draft might be the talk of the town these days in the NHL, but negotiation are going on behind the scene to lock down a few UFAs too. Although no team can officially make offers to UFAs before a few days, talks can still be held to gauge mutual interest.

Pierre LeBrun confirmed this morning that Kris Russell might be a target, among others, for the Golden Knights. 

Russell has been playing in the NHL for about 10 years now and earned a decent reputation as a responsible defenseman. He might not be the best puck mover around, but for a reasonable price you can hire a responsible and experimented defenseman to build the team. It could be a valid option for Vegas, as rumors say Edmonton might not be interesting in signing their former defenseman anyway.
