Veteran and renowned coach to land a job soon?

When a veteran coach is fired, it usually never takes long before he is offered a new job. Especially when you coached 1,493 NHL games, and your name is Lindy Ruff.

Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman said in his weekly edition of 30 Thoughts that he believes Ruff was contacted by the New York Rangers. The 57-year-old coach was fired by the Dallas Stars at the end of last season.

"It’s not a surprise to hear rumblings that Ruff was contacted by the Rangers about joining Alain Vigneault’s staff. I’m not sure where this stands right now, but it sounds like it was with the idea of making the group stronger, not forcing Vigneault to look over his shoulder."

Ruff has coached the Buffalo Sabres from 1997 to 2012, before joining the Stars in 2013. He recorded 736 wins, 554 losses, 78 ties and 125 overtime losses, and won the Jack Adams trophy, awarded to the league's best coach, in 2006.
