Veteran defenseman at risk of being traded for the second time this year.

A National Hockey League veteran appears to be at serious risk of being traded for the second time this year.

Earlier this week the Minnesota Wild placed 32-year-old veteran defenseman Kyle Quincey on waivers and although Quincey has now cleared the waiver process, it doesn't sound like he is headed to the American Hockey League.

In fact by the sound of the report from Minnesota Wild insider Mike Russo, the ideal scenario right now for Wild general manager Chuck Fletcher may be to trade Quincey.

From Russo:

He can be assigned to the AHL Iowa Wild, but sources indicate Quincey, who signed a one-year, $1.25 million contract July 1, won’t be heading to Iowa, at least initially. General Manager Chuck Fletcher and Quincey’s agent, Pat Morris, have been in contact and are discussing what happens next if the Wild can’t trade him, although neither has commented as of this post.

If Fletcher is unable to pull of a trade involving Quincey and Quincey refuses to report to the American Hockey League, one has to wonder if both sides wouldn't potentially seek to terminate their agreement.

That being said Quincey has played 18 games in the NHL this season, and despite him seeing limited ice time it seems likely that there would be at least one NHL franchise with interest in acquiring him. Whether that will be through trade or as a free-agent is what remains to be see.
