A veteran defenseman may be at the center of a trade rumored that was sparked by a National Hockey League general manager last night.

With his Ottawa Senators facing off against the Montreal Canadiens on Monday night, Senators general manager Pierre Dorion was in the United States watching the New York Islanders, leading to speculation the two sides could be working on a trade.

Now TSN's Shawn Simpson has shared his thoughts on the rumor and he believes that veteran defenseman Chris Wideman may be the player that the Sens and Islanders are currently discussing.

The 27-year-old former fourth round pick played for three years under Islanders assistant coach Luke Richardson and there is a belief that his offensive talents could be of interest to the Islanders in certain situations.

According to Simpson the Senators general manager has been on the market for a forward to add to his lineup, although he did not touch on what player he would be seeking in return for Wideman.
