Veteran defenseman sent to the AHL as team tries to trade him.

It's no longer just a rumor, the Minnesota Wild are attempting to trade veteran defenseman Kyle Quincey.

Despite the fact that the Wild signed Quincey as a free to agent to a one-year contract worth $1,250,000 early this year, it seems that general manager Chuck Fletcher believes Quincey serves the team better as a trade asset. 

Minnesota Wild insider Mike Russo of The Athletic is now reporting that the Wild have sent Quincey down to the American Hockey League as they attempt to find a trade for him. 

It's unclear at this time if the Wild have had serious talks with any team regarding Quincey's availability but the fact that he cleared the waiver process likely indicates they won't be getting much in return if they do move him. 

The move also has another benefit, it reduces Quincey's cap hit from $1,250,000 to $225,000 + a promoted amount of his NHL money earned so far, giving Fletcher more flexibility to make moves.
