Usually when players are placed on waivers at this stage of the season it's worth paying attention simply because teams are often still in the process of finalizing their rosters. especially in a season where training camp is limited by an event such as the World Cup of Hockey.

With that in mind the announcement today that veteran forward Mason Raymond has been placed on waivers, and therefore is available to just about every team in the NHL should they choose to claim him off the waiver wire, is an intriguing one.

Raymond only appeared in three games for Anaheim but impressed enough to earn himself an NHL deal earlier this summer, and with the sheer number of players who were brought in on professional tryout offers this summer, there are likely still a number of teams looking for additional depth in their bottom six forward group.

Raymond most recently filled that exact role as a member of the Calgary Flames where he bounced between both the NHL and the American Hockey League last season, and it will be intriguing to see if he is in fact claimed.
