There was some exciting news this summer when one of the most entertaining goaltenders in the league's history, Ilya Bryzgalov, stated that he was planning to make a comeback to the National Hockey League.

Unfortunately for Bryzgalov it appears that he has had a great deal of difficulty finding a team willing to even give him a shot in a role as a back up goaltender, and it appears that he may retire as a result. Bryzgalov recently touched on that possibility during a Russian language interview translated by The Hockey News.

“I'm not going to play (in the KHL),” Bryzgalov told Championat. “The fact (is) there are a lot of different reasons. They are not in any way related to the fact, as many people might think, that this is Russia or the level of (play in the KHL). Simply, shall we say, for family reasons, I can not do that. I was thinking about retirement...I play sports and enjoy life. If there are options, we will be glad to consider them, I would love to play.”

Bryzgalov also admitted that he believes the possibility of find a spot on an NHL roster is "very small" and when considering his desire to play in the NHL seemingly exclusively, it sounds like he's accepted the fact that this is likely the end.
