One veteran goaltender seems to have indicated to reporters that he believes he may be dealt during the offseason.

The New York Islanders fielded three different goaltenders this season, and with speculation that the Islanders want to give young goaltender Jean-Francois Berube more playing time next season, that would naturally leave an odd man out.

Veteran goaltender Jaroslav Halak appears to believe he is that man, and according to a report from Brett Cyrgalis of the New York Post, Halak has already expressed those concerns to management. When asked about the three goalie system forward Halak admitted “it’s not ideal,” before adding, “I’ve tried to tell [management], and this is not up to me.

“I like it here, but they just have to decide which way they want to go for next season. J-F is a young goalie, Greisser[Thomas Greiss] played well all season long. So we’ll see.”

Halak was injured in the latter stages of the season, but he had a decent performance this season while healthy, appearing in 36 games and posting a 2.30 goals against average and a .919 save percentage along the way. He comes with two years of control, at a cap hit of $4.5 million per, but there is always the possibility of salary retention to sweeten the deal for potential buyers.
