This may mark the end of a long and storied career that spans over a decade in the National Hockey League.

On Thursday it was announced that goaltender Ray Emery has been released from his professional try out contract with the Toronto Marlies, the AHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs, a sign that his career as an NHL caliber goaltender may be at an end.

If this is indeed the end of Emery's NHL career he leaves behind quite the legacy, he is the last goaltender to lead the Ottawa Senators, the team that drafted him in 2001, to the Stanley Cup Final, and he also won a Stanley Cup as a member of the Chicago Blackhawks in 2013. Emery also holds the record for most consecutive wins by a goaltender to start a season with 12.

Throughout his career he spent time in several organizations, but will most likely be remembered as a member of the aforementioned Senators, Blackhawks and as well the Philadelphia Flyers, who may go down as the final NHL team he played for.

Emery has not made an official announcement, so this is entirely speculative at this point, but one has to imagine being cut from a try out with the Marlies is the beginning of the end.
