Veteran with over 850 career points on the trading block.

A number of teams in the National Hockey League are making aggressive pushes to bolster their depth at center via trade, however the number of quality centers available has decreased drastically since both Matt Duchene and Kyle Turris were traded.

This week Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman was a guest on Vancouver's 650 radio when he was asked about some of the names available on the market. To be honest most of the names he listed were rather underwhelming option, but Friedman did speculate about one very interesting possibility.

“I do think as the season goes on some things will become obvious. I’ve wondered about Jason Spezza in Dallas..." said Friedman as per Fanrag Sports.

Despite the fact that Spezza is obviously in the latter stages of his career he continues to be a stable presence up the middle, and in 22 games with the Dallas Stars this season he has continued to produce, recording 3 goals and 6 assists for 9 points.

Of course when you bring in a player like Spezza you also bring in a ton of veteran experience, and the 933 NHL games he has under his belt could be of great benefit to a number of young roster.

That being said most contending teams looking to add Spezza will require the Stars to retain some salary, Spezza counts for $7.5 million against the cap both this season and the next. While Spezza at $7.5 million is a hard sell, Spezza with the Stars retaining 50% salary at $3.75 million would be a much more attractive trading chip.
