Brian Gionta has been in the NHL a long time, but even he can get caught with his head down.
During Saturday's matchup between the Toronto Maple leafs and Buffalo Sabres, the Sabres' veteran forward became the victim of a huge hit at the hands of Nazem Kadri.
Gionta picks up the puck along the boards and looks down for a second to corral the puck. It was all that Kadri needed, as the Leafs' forward absolutely crushes the smaller Gionta. The Sabres chase down Kadri led by Marcus Foligno, and both teams exchange pleasantries. No penalty was assessed for the check, and Foligno earned himself a minor for his trouble.
Gionta skated away unscathed, but will probably remember to be more aware when #43 for the Blue and White is on the ice.
