On Tuesday, the Flyers suffered a tough 5-2 loss as they visited the Florida Panthers. This evening, they will look to bounce back in Carolina where they will face the Hurricanes.
Coach Alain Vigneault had enough after registering a third consecutive defeat and has decided to make drastic modifications to his lineup ahead of this evening's matchup, especially when it comes to his offensive line combinations.
The Giroux-Frost-Konecny trio was perhaps the only line that had a good performance on Tuesday and as such, it will be staying intact. Morgan Frost scored his first goal in his first NHL game against the Panthers and will undoubtedly be looking for more tonight.
James Van Riemsdyk will be demoted to the 4th offensive line, while Tyler Pitlick, Kevin Hayes and Joel Farabee form a new 3rd line. Jakub Voracek will be joining Oskar Lindblom and Sean Couturier on the first line.
Brian Elliott is set to get the start tonight. Carter Hart will be his backup after a few disappointing performances.
Here is the Flyers' projected lineup for this evening's match against the Hurricanes according to NHL.com correspondent Kurt Dusterberg:
Forwards:
Oskar Lindblom - Sean Couturier - Jakub Voracek
Claude Giroux - Morgan Frost - Travis Konecny
Joel Farabee - Kevin Hayes - Tyler Pitlick
James van Riemsdyk - Michael Raffl - Andy Andreoff
Defensemen:
Ivan Provorov - Matt Niskanen
Shayne Gostisbehere - Justin Braun
Travis Sanheim - Philippe Myers
Goaltenders:
Brian Elliott
Carter Hart
Chris Stewart and Robert Hagg are set to be the healthy scratches tonight. Meanwhile, Nolan Patrick and Scott Laughton are still recovering from injuries.
It won't be an easy win for the Flyers as the talented Hurricanes are looking to win a 5th consecutive game after going cold over the previous few weeks. That being said, it should certainly be a good one!
