It appears as though the Detroit Red Wings have made another move, this time at the center position.

Although we have very little to go on at this time, National Hockey League player agent Dan Milstein is reporting that centerman Vladislav Namestnikov has agreed to join the Detroit Red Wings. Now, given that Milstein is the agent that represents Namestnikov, he is a pretty good source on this matter, but the deal has not been announced by the Red Wings and Milstein has elected not to disclose the financials nor the term of this deal at this time.

Update: The Red Wings have now officially announced the deal, and it will be a two year contract for Namestnikov, but the financial terms have still not been disclosed.

Update #2: Detroit Red Wings insider Helen St. James of The Detroit Free Press is reporting that deal is worth a total of $4 million which means that we are looking at an average annual value, and cap hit, of $2 million per season on this deal. Again Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman has shown a knack for attracting free agents, and doing so at a relatively reasonable cost, to what should otherwise be a very unattractive destination for free agents given the Red Wings recent lack of success.

St. James makes note of one other interesting detail regarding this latest move from Yzerman. Vladislav Namestnikov is actually the nephew of Vyacheslav Kozlov, a man better know to fans in North America simply as "Slava" Kozlov. Kozlov was of course a former Detroit Red Wing and he played with Yzerman during his tenure on the team, which mean that Yzerman already has some pretty good ties to this player and can likely pick up the phone and reach out to his former teammate should he ever need help with, or advice on, Namestnikov for any reason.

Yzerman himself will already be quite familiar with the player however, given that they have spent time together in the recent past. Yzerman took over the role of general manager of the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2010, and at the 2011 draft his first round draft selection just so happened to be a young Vladislav Namestnikov. Namestnikov spent several seasons with the Lightning under the leadership of Yzerman, so the Red Wings GM knows exactly what he's getting here.
