Wayne Gretzky living great anxiety due to COVID-19 pandemic

Wayne Gretzky is still having difficulties understanding everything around the NHL pause caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. As he explained on Writers Bloc on Tuesday, while he is saddened to see his favourite sport taking a break, he is mostly anxious about his father’s health. 

Walter Gretzky is 81 years old and was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2012. 

“That’s our biggest concern, obviously, like anybody else who’s got elderly parents and elderly parents who are battling some sort of scenario,” Gretzky said of his father who resides north of the border in Ontario.

And unfortunately for Wayne, he is holed up at his home in California, doing the responsible thing to stop the spread of the disease. However, he feels helpless. 

“My sister’s got an eye on him, my brothers have got an eye on him. They’ve pretty much locked him down and locked out the house and we’re trying to keep him, like every other elderly person in the world and in Canada, safe and hopefully we can get through this because it is trying times for everyone.”

“We’re all trying to do our part,” Gretzky added. “Our community is pretty much in a lockdown other than getting things that you have to have, but everything is closed and it’s kind of eerie right now. We’ve all got to do a small piece and, hopefully, all those small pieces add up to getting rid of this pandemic and we can go back to somewhat of a normal life. Hopefully, like everyone, we all stay safe and stay healthy.”
