Wayne Simmonds limps off the ice in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs!

Terrible break for the Predators.

The Nashville Predators are down a game in their first round series against the Dallas Stars in the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs, and a significant injury to one of their top forwards is the last thing they need right now.

Unfortunately for the Predators there is now some serious concern that this is exactly what they may have just gotten in Game 2 of their aforementioned series against the Dallas Stars. The Predators started off the day with the news that veteran forward Brian Boyle would not participate in Game 2 due to an illness that was seemingly serious to keep him out of a playoff game, and the news would get even worse during the opening period of Game 2.

It is the time of year in which hockey players put their bodies on the line in order to obtain even the smallest of advantages that they can over their opposition and that is exactly what Predators forward Wayne Simmonds was doing in the first. Simmonds placed himself firmly in the front of the Dallas Stars net, right in the shooting lane in fact, as he attempted to create a screen for his defenseman who were firing shots from the point, and unfortunately he did not get out of the way in time.

A rocket of a shot from the point began streaking towards Simmonds who appeared to have seen it coming the whole way. As a result Simmonds launched himself into the air with a big jump for a man of his size, especially one launching himself off a pair of skate blades, but unfortunately he would not manage to get out of the way of the streaking puck in time. In fact Simmonds may have made things worse by jumping into the air as the puck appeared to strike him in the knee, a knee that was only extended in the way that it was as a result of the jumping motion that Simmonds was making at the time.

The puck bounced hard off of Simmonds' knee and it was quite obvious that the big man was in a great deal of pain right away. The notoriously tough forward could barely keep his feet on the ice as he struggled badly to limp to the Predators bench where he would only remain a short time before leaving the game completely. As of this writing Simmonds has not returned to the game and the Predators have not provided an update.
