The All Star break gives teams a chance to determine where they are and what they will need to do going forward. The Flyers brass were up to exactly that and will have to come down to a decision, will they be buyer or sellers at the trade deadline.

The Flyers currently sit 5 points behind Pittsburgh for the last wild card spot with a game in hand. They have 50 points in 47 games so far and will have plenty of work to do. Last season Pittsburgh claimed the last playoff spot with 98 points. So that means that the Flyers would have to get 48 points over their last 35 games. Therefore that means to reach the 98 point mark, the Flyers would have to go at least 24-11-0 over their final games. Not exactly promising.

The next few games for Philly will be very important and really be a huge factor in determining what Ron Hextall will be looking to do at the deadline. The East is very tight so if a team falters, it means another team can gain some ground. We will have to wait and see what happens.
