Despite what certain players might have us all believing, often it really is all about the money.

When Dale Weise became an unrestricted free agent this summer, he publicly expressed interest in rejoining the Montreal Canadiens after having been traded to the Chicago Blackhawks at last season’s deadline, many fans were hoping he’d return.

Unfortunately for the “Dutch Gretzky”, negotiations did not go his way as there was less money offered by the Habs than he expected:

“…I said: ‘You guys are going to have to come up with a lot more. I’m not going to take less money to play there,” he told the Montreal Gazette.

He subsequently signed a 4-year deal worth $9.8 million with the Philadelphia Flyers, despite knowing his heart lay with Montreal.
