Who is the Isles starting goalie?

So many have changed for the New York Islanders... The career backup netminder Thomas Greiss got the starting spot in the winter when his teammate Jaroslav Halak got injured. 

He then went on to land a three-year, $10 million contract extension in January when he got the better of Florida Panthers' Roberto Luongo in the 2016 postseason. Greiss got the clear message that he was the starting netminder when Halak was sent down to the farm club. 

But things changed, once again! The Islanders fired coach Jack Capuano and replaced him with Doug Weight. Halak bounced back from his demotion to the AHL, and lifted the Isles by going 6-1 with a 1.58 GAA and .949 SP. 

And the goalie controvery was back on! Who starts for the Isles now? 

According to Matt Larkin of the Hockey News, Greiss still has a "slight edge" over Halak, since he is still under contract for the next three seasons as Halak will be set to become an unrestricted free agent in the summer. 

"Halak should start at least 30 games, assuming he isn’t traded, as Weight tries to keep Greiss fresher. The leash will also be short. If Greiss struggles again, Halak can snatch the catbird seat back. Greiss is the likely pick to start Game 1 of the season, though.," Larkin writes.
