This is a big surprise.

There was a surprising move made by the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday.

According to a report from Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman the Ducks have placed veteran defenseman Clayton Stoner on waivers, it's unclear what their intentions are should he clear.

There were rumors earlier in the summer that the Ducks were looking to move one of their defensemen, and the two names that kept coming up were both Stoner's as well as that of Cam Fowler however no deal ever materialized and this move may be a response to that.

Stoner's contract has been called into question since general manager Bob Murray signed him to the deal, so it seems unlikely that Stoner will be picked up by an NHL team, although with the desperate need of defense in some organizations it's not out of the realm of possibility.
