Wild coaching situation still unclear heading into the offseason.

The Minnesota Wild aren't sure who will be the man behind the bench next season, and that may be a good thing.

There's no doubt that interim head coach John Torchetti performed admirably on extremely short notice when he stepped in behind the Wild bench after former head coach Mike Yeo was terminated on the heels of a massive losing streak. The issue here is Torchetti lacks the experience and pedigree you would expect in a coach at the National Hockey League level, and many believe that his lack of experience played a role in the Wild's quick first round playoff exit.

On Thursday Minnesota Wild GM did admit that Torchetti had emerged as "very serious candidate for the head coach position," and there's two things to take away from that statement. The first and most obvious is that Torchetti's ability to turn the Wild's season around and get them into the playoffs has earned him a shot at the job, and perhaps even a leg up on the competition, perhaps rightfully so.

The second implication here is that Fletcher labelled Torchetti a candidate, likely meaning that Torchetti will be just one of many men who are interview for the position, and likely meaning that Torchetti is not yet guaranteed the position.

If GM Chuck Fletcher is interviewing for the position he's done a good job of covering his tracks, as we have heard no names rumored for the job.
