It’s a Heavy Jab Directed to the Player

The Wild sits approximately $346,297 under this season’s salary cap, with $72.7-million spent, according to capfriendly.com. The Wild have a lot of players who need new contracts for next season, including UFA’s Martin Hanzal and Ryan White, as well as some RFA’s who’ll be looking for a bit of raise, including Mikael Grandlund and Nino Niederreiter.

If we already heard Bruce Boudreau and Chuck Fletcher’s voices following the Minnesota Wild elimination, it was time to hear what the owner had to say.

When asked about Fletcher for swinging for the fences by trading a first- and second-round draft pick to Arizona for Martin Hanzal and Ryan White before the trade deadline, Craig Leipold was categorical:

In hindsight, geez, I wish we wouldn’t have done that,” Leipold told the Minneapolis Star Tribune on Wednesday. “I supported that decision at the time, and I’m willing to live with it.

I’m not satisfied where we are,” Leipold said. “In my feeling with the playoffs, we took a step back, and we never expected that. We didn’t think that was going to happen, so it’s causing us to think, ‘What do we need to do?’”
