Wild rookie headed to the World Championship after tough playoff exit.

The Minnesota Wild got off to a red hot start this season, and in contrast the final part of their regular season as well as their relatively swift post season exit against the St. Louis Blues, was a huge disappointment.

Fortunately for at least one member of the Wild's roster there will be a silver lining. On Monday the team officially announced that 20 year-old rookie Joel Eriksson-Ek would be joining his national team at the World Championships.

It should come as no surprise, Eriksson-Ek was after all named the captain of Sweden's squad at the 2017 World Junior Championship so it seems normal that the Swedes would want him in the line up for their next IIHF international tournament.

It's a great opportunity for the young center to keep developing his skills in big game scenarios, and as a result is likely great news for the Wild in the long-term as well.
