“It's a mockery!”

The Minnesota Wild was beat twice by the Nashville Predators and forward Ryan Johansson in a shootout this week. And goalie Devan Dubnyk is not happy about it.

On Sunday, Johansson beat his backup netminder Alex Stalock in the shootout and last night, it was Dubnyk's turn. Both times, the Preds forward showcased his quick hands, however, Dubnyk believes that he is using filthy tactics as he slowly approached the net, adding that Johansen is making a "mockery" of the breakaway competition.

“To me, he’s completely stopped. It’s frustrating,” Dubnyk said after the game, per Michael Russo. “That’s two games in a row. He shoves Al’s pad in the net. If he’s not stopped, he’s not stopped. But I don’t understand how you come in and stop at the top of the crease and stand there and stickhandle and wait. If you want, I mean, I don’t mind shootouts but if you want some example of why maybe not, there’s one. That’s two games in a row. It’s a mockery. We’re trying to make the playoffs. Obviously, I’m frustrated because we’re on the wrong side of it, but you got a guy standing at the top of the crease not moving, stickhandling back and forth. And then I’m down and out and he stands there and looks at me while I’m trying to lift my pad up. Still waits, shoots the puck in the net. I don’t know what that is.”

The NHL's rule book doesn't set specific parameters on how fast a player must be traveling when taking their shootout attempt, but it does state that the puck and skater must be moving forward at all times.

“The puck must be kept in motion towards the opponent’s goal line and once it is shot, the play shall be considered complete.”

Unfortunately for Dubnyk, his head coach Bruce Boudreau didn't have his back as he believes Johansson never stopped moving on the play.

"I didn't think he stopped the forward motion," said Boudreau when asked about Johansen's attempt on Tuesday. "So to me it was a good goal."

What do you think about the goal?
