This was one that everyone watching Saturday night's contest between the Washington Capitals and the Tampa Bay Lightning had been waiting for and it certainly delivered.

On Saturday night the Washington Capitals were facing off against the Tampa Bay Lightning in a match up that may very well be between the two favorites to emerge from the 2019 Eastern Conference Final. The Capitals are of course the defending Stanley Cup Champions while the Lightning have been far and away the best team in the National Hockey League this season, but by the time the third period had rolled around this evening all eyes were on the two big boys on either side of the ice.

Washington Capitals infamous forward Tom Wilson and Tampa Bay Lightning rookie defenseman Erik Cernak had been going at each other repeatedly during the course of the game and it seemed inevitable that the two men would eventually drop the gloves and throw down. That is exactly what they would do by the time it was all said and done and neither man disappointing their respective fans with both guys showing tremendous courage and putting on one hell of a show.

The two men not only dropped the gloves but it was quite clear that they were also in this one to try and drop one another as well. Both guys came out swinging hard and both were throwing bombs at one another with a couple of them even connecting. In spite of some of the blows landing both guys kept throwing until it looked for a moment like Cernak had gotten the better of the veteran Capitals enforcer. Cernak connected with a huge blow that left Wilson reeling and you could tell by his body language that it had stunned him at the very least, and I must admit I was stunned as well to see the rookie get the better of him.

Full credit to Wilson here though, he reached deep within himself and responded with a massive bomb of his own and this one left no doubt about the winner of the fight. Cernak crumbled to the ice as a result of the blow and remained there long enough for Wlson to stand over him, talking trash, before eventually being escorted away by the officials.
