Things got uglier in St. Louis...

It was payback time in St. Louis last night.

The Washington Capitals were facing the Blues on Thursday night and we all knew it was coming. In the Capitals’ final preseason game, forward Tom Wilson blindsided Blues forward Oskar Sundqvist with a high hit. Wilson was given a match penalty, and Sundqvist suffered a concussion and shoulder injury. The league then made quite the statement, suspending him for the first 20 games to begin the regular season, even though it was reduced later on in the campaign.

Robert Bortuzzo was ready for the game and the Blues defender had been chirping Wilson all evening long. Finally during the second period, the two men dropped the gloves in a heavyweight bout.

While Wilson might have been ready to face Bortuzzo, he probably wasn't ready for the hate he got from one Blues fan once he landed in the penalty box after the fight. The Blues fan decided to chirp Wilson in the penalty box and it got ugly fast.

“The guy was yelling the standard ‘you’re the dirtiest player in the league’ stuff. Then went ‘I’m going after your family’ at least once, Russian Machine Never Breaks’ Brennin Weiswerda, who was sitting behind the Capitals’ penalty box, said. “Next time Wilson was in the box, he yelled a few things about hoping Wilson gets paralyzed.”

St. Louis Game Time's Jeff Jones reported that the fan called Wilson “a piece of garbage” and the “biggest piece of sh*t in the NHL” while giving Wilson the middle finger with both hands. According to Jones, Wilson stood up in the penalty box and chirped back to the fan.

According to a source who spoke with the Russian Machine Never Breaks, Wilson told the fan not to curse in front of the children sitting near the penalty box.

We weren't expecting that.

While many people may dislike Wilson for his antics on the ice, he remains a human being and his family should never be involved or mentioned during chirps. That Blues fan, who was not ejected from the game, should know better.

Before the contest, Wilson sat down and had a deep interview with Andy Strickland of Fox Sports Midwest in which he revealed that he is now afraid to make hits on the ice. He even said he would be sitting out pre-season games against the Blues from now on...

“Honest talk with Tom Wilson today. Says it’s gotten to the point he’d rather not make a hit in fear of it being considered illegal. Says it’s 100% in his head throughout a hockey game,” Strickland posted on his Twitter account.

Wilson may not want to come play in St. Louis at all anymore, if you ask me...
